With St. Valentine’s Day on the way it is time (it’s always time!) to ‘grow in love’. But, in order to do that we have to ‘catch a glimpse’ of a love that inspires: lifts, heals, and overcomes (all things)!
To put the sacred text today…into the secular words of Winston Churchill, “Never give in. Never give in. Never. Never. Never. Never!”
God's message to the world in Jesus… is unmistakable.
Come, let us listen....for an earth shattering....Heavenly....Hallelujah!
According to Deuteronomy there are at least four ways to spot a religious charlatan.
It’s a shame current commerce is not listening! Most companies today have a celebrity “pitchperson”.. who acts as their public "face" in advertising. So, when that public face ends up in scandal, the company often suffers most. Companies have to choose wisely when looking for someone to speak for them.
Israel faced a similar dilemma: how can you tell the difference between a real prophet - - and just another religious pitchperson? It's a question for everyone who wants to hear….God’s authentic word.
Have you ever considered the extreme measures God went to.. to save humankind?
Parents have a history of trusting their vulnerable infants....to others. But, on Christmas Eve, we celebrate a baby who lived danger....who thrived on it, …even flaunted it!
Consider the evidence....and come to the manger today....aware of the danger of God coming to earth...as one of us!
Life these days involves a lot of - - waiting. Right?
It's gotten to the point we expect to wait. It happens so often.... we even prepare….to wait.
As People of the Word....we ..are called.. to wait. But what should we do...while we wait?
Welcome to Advent!
I think one of the greatest comforts I can give someone distressed....in hospital....is the transience of life. Hang on! What I mean is....'our life ends'. But Life....is eternal!! Thank God.
Toil, turmoil and trouble...pass. What remains....is Goodness. Forever.
Come, to the Eternal Light of God's love.
Here’s an awesome Word, straightforward and powerful, adapted from a sermon by Peter Marshall. Have you ever been ‘without' on Thanksgiving? Feeling like maybe you’ve not a lot for which to be thankful this year? Come join us and watch (hear and ‘see with your spiritual sight’) what God is doing…among us. We’ll ‘set the table’ so to speak with an armchair reading for a Thanksgiving afternoon story.
It is said two of life’s certainties are death and taxes. That saying has been around since before Jesus’ time. But also certain is the freedom we have in managing money.
In today’s text, Jesus is posed a money ”Gotcha!” question.
How do we handle money? A better and deeper a question, how do we ‘render to God all things which belong to God?'
God don’t make no junk! And it’s true; we are all born in God’s image: perfect, innocent, the mark of the Divine within us. No matter how down (or out) you have been, “God is able to lift you up and present you without blemish before the throne of Heaven.” On our way to Stewardship Sunday, here’s a gentle, loving reminder that we are the ‘gems of Heaven on earth”!
